at ETH: designing a rich GUI in JAVA for the Algorithms, Data
Structure and Applications group at ETH. The group works with the Swiss
rail company SBB, developing algorithms to improve train system functionality.
I am designing a user interface for the group and also for the SBB staff,
so that they can visualize the results in several different ways such
as tables, graphs etc.
Workshop – Visual Animal Farm: an R&D cycle that involves
various designs, code writing and integration of a real world small
application. The goal of the project was to design a children's
game which uses a simple WebCam to recognize animal cards/user drawn
animals. The project consists of two levels: in the first level the
user shows an animal card to the webcam and the game recognizes which
animal it is and in the advanced level the user draws an animal and
the game marks the problematic areas in this drawing. The project uses
the openCV library for all the computational vision computations. It
was written in c.
Project Modularity and community structure in Networks: In
this project I implemented an algorithm for detecting “community structures”
or clusters in biological networks, where vertices correspond to genes/proteins
and edges correspond to interactions between them. A community within
a network is a densely connected set of vertices, with only sparser
connections to other sets. The algorithm uses binary matrices which
represent the genes and their connections and algebraic manipulations
using eigenvectors, matrix shifting, etc in order to find the clusters.

– IMDB Database:
In this project I designed and implemented an application for storing/selecting/querying/updating/deleting
information from the Hollywood industry based on the IMDB website. The
project's goal is to create a Database with more than M records. Beside
the basic queries the project includes some features, such as finding
other users who like the same movies, get recommendation to movies according
to favorite movies, etc. The project has a high level GUI and was written
– Nim game and a chat between clients: In this project
there is a server and up to ten clients, each of which can connect to
the server. The server runs a game and a chat between the clients. The
project focuses on the reliability and correctness of the packages that
are transferred between the clients. It also requires the server to
support multiple connections and disconnections. It was written in c.
