Additionally, while employed at the Berkeley Police Department: · As a Patrol Officer, I initiated the creation of the Domestic Violence/Victim Assistance Unit in ; identified the need, then designed, implemented and presented a Victim Interviewing inhouse training courses using the Train the Trainer method. The curriculum from this course was used by POST instructors for Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Investigation courses. As a Patrol Officer for the Berkeley Police Department, designed, implemented and instructed a "recruitment" course for police officer candidates, providing clues to successfully completing written, oral and physical agility tests. · M ANAGEMENT &P ROGRAM D EVELOPMENT As part time instructor, initiated and assisted with the development and operation of the Criminal Justice program at Western Career College while teaching all nine courses at both Emeryville and San Leandro campuses. Duties included general outreach through training administrative personnel; curriculum development and design; and generally acted in the capacity of Program Director. During my tenure as Detective Sergeant with the Berkeley Police Department , I developed, designed and prepared various training programs to new and seasoned Patrol officers, Field Training Officers who provided on the job training for new recruits, various levels of supervisors and the general public about various topics including investigation techniques, tracking sex offenders, personal safety and sexual assault awareness. As Detective Sergeant for the Berkeley Police Department [], I was in charge of the Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Prevention Unit. During my tenure, I supervised or was directly in charge of all followup investigations as well as directing first responders at the crime scene. I successfully prosecuted numerous felony and misdemeanor criminals, using physical evidence, including DNA, pretext telephone calls, and effective interview and interrogation techniques. My duties also included tracking approximately registered sex offenders. Jail Operations Manager as Sergeant with the Berkeley Police Department : designed and implemented continuous update training for City Jail employees by obtaining partial funding from the California Department of Corrections. During my tenure, I rewrote and strengthened the Jail Operations policy and procedures, providing clear instructions for specific safety techniques and procedures. This included researching and preparing the required proposals to finance continuous update training through state funding grants. Field Training Officer [FTO] Program Manager as Sergeant with the Berkeley Police Department : reorganized, strengthened and redesigned the various training tools of the Program the Daily Performance Objectives manual, the evaluation process, including the forms and wrote the first General Order describing and validating the Program. I also coordinated the training for new police officers, which included ongoing update training for the FTOs to insure consistency with POST Academy training.
