As the Executive Officer of the Board of Education, responsible for supervision, professional development and evaluation of certified and noncertified staff, the educational success of , Kth grade students, the development and maintenance of a dynamic learning culture on three campuses, and maximizing the instructional impact on student achievement through the effective deployment of a $. million budget, in addition to providing the leadership in curriculum and human resources. Developed a Kth grade Health Science curricular focus designed to provide students with career relevant learning experiences linked to the growing local Health Science industry in efforts to retain Kent City&;s graduates in Michigan&;s Knowledge Based Economy. Expanded K Music and Performing Arts, currently % of Kent City thth grade student participate in Music and Performing Arts. Implemented K World Language program, allowing for Kth grade to receive weekly Spanish instruction, thth grade to earn HS credits, and thth grade opportunities to complete years of World Languages. Implemented a semester Equivalent Summer Program of Study allowing over students to recover or accelerate credits leading to increased access to Dual Enrollment, KCTC, and Internship opportunities. Developed and Implemented a K Computer Science transitioning program from applications to innovations based programming including animation, video production, and multicurricular programming for all students Kth grade. Implemented an Embedded Honors Credentialing program Kth grade, capitalizing Differentiated Instruction and Universal Design for Learning Research allowing all students access to expanded learning experiences within all course and subject areas. Collaboratively developed, as a fiscal leader, a budget that increased the fund balance from less than % to .% within the first months as superintendent without negatively impacting programs and services for students, and in years two and three, expanded the fund balance to % in the most challenging fiscal times since the Great Depression while adding programs. Working collaboratively with district staff, facilitated a transition in human resources that created $, in savings, recalled staff from layoffs, and expanded services to students including the addition of a Director of Student Services and a Middle School Dean of Students. Through creative grant fund dollar deployment, created the position of Coordinator of Special Programs, Services, and Instructional Effectiveness to support maximum growth of staff, students, and programs accelerating the benefits of programs designed to increase student achievement. Implemented High Impact Initiatives focused on increasing K Computer Science, Music and Performing Arts, World Languages, and Health Science programs firmly establishing Kent City Community Schools as a premiere district of choice for parents and students. Made a significant impact on district culture and climate beginning with summer allstaff family picnic establishing "family values" as a district priority, created a weekly districtwide newsletter allowing for effective twoway communication with all staff, and formed
a "Staff Conversations" monthly meeting group to maintain positive dialogue and problem solve allowing for all energies to be focused on the needs of children by eliminating the obstacles for educators. Developed a communitywide communication listserve focused on educating all stakeholders to the fiscal challenges leading to a successful bond renewal campaign for both a sinking fund and operational millage renewal by securing three times the number of yes votes than the same initiatives just three years prior. Working within the current fiscal constraints, developed flexible learning opportunities for all students K including a twoweek summer credit recovery and acceleration program that saved the district . FTE or an average of $, while allowing students to expand opportunities leading to specialized individual learning opportunities and dual enrollment credits; in addition to creating a seminar period for thth grade students providing academic enrichment and relevance without expanding the school day or increasing staffing; and implementing a middle school elective program that has a core content focus embedded in a global career exploration format.
Educational Consultant, Kent Intermediate Secondary Redesign Committee Grand Rapids, Michigan Present As a member of the KISA Leadership Team, serve as the cochair of the Redesign Committee, working to market, educate, facilitate growth and implementation, and otherwise be the voice of change on behalf the county superintendents on behalf of children. CoFacilitate planning and implementation of all stages of the process to open Innovation High School, a lab school that has been developed as a result of a year commitment by the KISA to redesign the secondary school experience. Assisted in the development and completion of the countywide survey of secondary students promoting student voice in order to facilitate reform in our secondary schools throughout Kent County. Assisted in the marketing of Secondary Redesign to numerous stakeholder groups, including the Secondary Principals Group, the Kent Education Foundation, and the KISD Board of Education, within Kent County in accordance with the goals and vision of the KISA Secondary Redesign Initiatives. Assisted in the development of Student Voice subgroups that work to unite secondary school populations within Kent County both expanding upon Student Voice and facilitating student centered change.
