SLR specialises in energy, mining and minerals, waste management, planning & development, and infrastructure & industrial sectors. As CAD manager from the outset, I&;ve had primary responsible for the graphical output of the company, and for developing and managing the CAD group, currently numbering dedicated CAD staff in the UK, as well as providing support to more than additional CAD users in other disciplines. I have been instrumental in developing quality systems and documents for CAD, and have trained many staff in the use of Autocad and terrain modelling software. I&;ve had extensive experience of working on a wide variety of projects, specialising in landfill design, engineering, & restoration, and site strategy and due diligence investigations for mineral working and landfill development. Other areas of experience include flood modelling, contaminated land and pollution plume modelling, mineral reserve and landfill void space analysis, earthworks design and volume calculation, civil engineering & infrastructure plans, and drawing production for planning and licensing for waste management and recycling facilities, composting facilities, and industrial and commercial property.

Golder Associates, Nottingham UK Graphics Manager April May
After joining Golder Associates in their Nottingham office as Civil Engineering Technician in April , I initially carried out site works as QA technician, until discovering a copy of Autocad Release in the office... I&;ve been a full time CAD Technician ever since. As the first CAD technician at Golder in the UK, I was responsible for developing and training a small team of dedicated CAD staff, who quickly became an efficient, highly skilled department producing graphics and terrain modelling support for a range of disciplines within Golder UK. The main areas of work were landfill design, engineering, & restoration, and site strategy investigations for mineral working and landfill development. Other work included flood modelling, contaminated land and pollution plume modelling, mineral reserve and landfill void space analysis, earthworks design and volume calculation, civil engineering & infrastructure plans, and drawing production for planning and licensing for waste management and recycling facilities, and industrial and commercial property.

UK Analytical, Harrogate UK Civil Engineering Technician February April
Joined UK Analytical in February and was seconded to the Central Electricity Generating Board to provide support to the Resident Engineer during construction of cooling towers at a coal fired power stations in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. Also provided technical support for a dam construction project at a hydroelectric power facility in North Wales. As QA Manager, I established and ran an onsite laboratory and was responsible for quality testing of all construction materials. I also supervised key aspects of construction work on behalf of the R.E. and was responsible for investigations into the temperature of curing concrete on behalf of the C.E.G.B. Also conducted research into the relationship between concrete workability and strength on behalf of Sheffield University.

My childhood passion was photography, and I aimed to become a professional photographer, but film, chemicals and darkrooms are where it&;s at; digital photography just doesn&;t have the same allure for me. I&;ve been a keen team sports player from an early age, played cricket at county level as a schoolboy and have played amateur and village cricket for many years since. I also enjoy coaching young cricket players in my local area. I&;m passionately interested in the Arts, especially classical music and opera. I played `cello in my younger days, and am now learning to play violin, taking lessons with a professional violin player. My neighbours have recently stopped complaining, so I guess I&;m improving. I&;ve been a motorcyclist for more than years, and currently ride a beautiful Moto Guzzi, mia bellezza... I&;m sorry to say that my favourite pieces of technology are a smart phone, and a Kindle. I have basic French, and am learning to speak svenska, men jag har precis börjat!
EXAMPLES OF RECENT PROJECTS
Landfill Cell Design, Redhill Landfill, Surrey, UK October
Redhill, an Engineered landfill facility in Surrey, UK, has been operating since the early s. It takes nonhazardous domestic and commercial waste from Surrey, London, and the Home Counties. The site accepts , tonnes of waste annually and is anticipated to operate until . SLR Consulting were commissioned to produce a design, CQA plan, construction quantities and engineering drawings, for the landfill phase. I was responsible for establishing the layout and size of the cell, to accommodate the anticipated waste input. This was done by modelling the topography, cell design, and final waste surfaces, and calculating volumes. I was also able to specify earthworks quantities and a movement schedule for construction, along with all materials quantities.

KingsW. Energy Recovery Facility, Cannock, UK September
KingsW. Energy Recovery Facility will generate energy and heat from the treatment by combustion of , tonnes of nonhazardous waste per year. The whole of the energy recovery process is housed in a single, architect designed building set within a landscaped context. Key landscape features include two new wildlife ponds, a reed bed, an open shingle beach, lowland heathland, species rich grassland, and new areas of native W.land. SLR were commissioned to provide full Environmental Statement and Planning Application documents, as well as being a key provider of Architectural, Landscape Design, and other related services. My role was to coordinate and edit all the drawing work, which was carried out by multiple disciplines at various locations in the UK. I also provided drawings for several sections, including Site Context, Noise, Ecology, Cultural Heritage and Landscape.

Plume plots, UK and Canada January
Plume plots represent contaminant concentrations based on borehole monitoring and chemical analysis of groundwater samples. Monitoring is carried out on a regular basis and results plotted using Autocad and Surfer D modelling software. A series of plots are then animated showing the concentration, spread and movement of contaminants over time.

Bentinck, Former Open Cast Coal Workings, Nottinghamshire, UK November January
Bentinck is a former open cast coal working site which operated between the s and . Whilst much of the site has now been restored to rough grassland, some hectares now requires a comprehensive restoration scheme. SLR Consulting were appointed to provide an Planning Application and Environmental Statement for the long term restoration scheme. The scheme involves landscaping, planting, ecological enhancements, and provision of a suitable landform for a range of recreational facilities. I was involved in all stages of the project, from initial site investigation, feasibility studies and modelling exercises for various restoration proposals, to coordinating, editing, and providing drawings for all sections of the Application.
