Operational in , $ million company focused on advanced composite sandwich structures in the development of product prototypes for wind energy, highperformance automotive, aerospace and defense clients; while I was employed, the organization had two primary facilities, two additional offices in the US and Europe, and employed fourteen.  

Lead Engineer/Vice President of Product Design and Engineering

Five Direct Reports Director of Composites Engineering, Design Engineer, Process Engineer, Design Interns 

Primary duties included developing the company’s proprietary technology to commercial viability as well as oversee prototype development for a growing client base. The following accomplishments were achieved under severely limited departmental budgets and compressed timeframes. 

  • Managed $k wind energy project from concept to completed prototypes.
  • Defined the fundamental engineering requirements for a kW Savoniusstyle wind turbine
  • Created mathematical models which predicted the unit’s performance
  • Completed CAD descriptions of the components
  • Developed appropriate sensor interfaces
  • Directed student interns collecting data, and analyzed the unit performance.  
  • The / scale prototype was considered successful from performance, schedule, and budget standpoints. 

  • Managed $k wind tunnel validation study from concept to completion.
  • Defined the CAD solutions for a : scale model of a Savoniusstyle wind turbine
  • Worked with outside agencies to interface the test unit with their facilities
  • Oversaw testing, and interpreted results
  • Validated novel mathematical models for performance evaluation
  • The study was considered successful from performance, schedule, and budget standpoints, and encouraged further product development.   

  • Managed $k project wind energy project from concept through wind tunnel studies
  • Developed a modular concept that met aesthetic requirements, as well as transportation requirements
  • Conceived a novel internal ducting arrangement allowing for improved air flow throughout the system, and created an opportunity for utilizing a secondary turbine from which to extract additional energy.
  • Applied for a provisional patent, “Modular Wind Turbine,” December , assigned to the client company.
  • Fabricated a : scale wind tunnel prototype, coordinating outside machinists to overcome significant manufacturing challenges. 
  • Oversaw CFD studies to refine the aerodynamic performance
  • Designed inhouse wind tunnel test platform, allowing us to meet budget and timeline requirements
  • The project was ongoing at the time of my departure, and considered successful in its approach to performance, schedule, and budget standpoints.   

  • Developed proprietary technologies for company. 
  • Developed CAD techniques to rapidly produce opencell structures from initial geometry definitions
  • Investigated methods of creating largescale structures from smaller subpanels
  • Oversaw materials characterization of test samples
