    Dear Patricia:

I am writing this letter based on the suggestions of Alicia Munnell and Brenda Pepe, who have urged me to apply for the position of Director, Office of Sponsored Programs at Boston College.  I have worked for the Federal government for the past years, the last twenty of which have been in grants and contracts.  I have worked with Alicia, Brenda and Fred Cromp for the past three plus years on a large grant, between Boston College and the Social Security Administration, funding research on retirement policy for the United States.  I think I have many qualifications that would make me an asset to Boston College’s grants program

I am the senior member of SSA’s Grants Management Team.  I mentor and advise staff on all facets of the Federal grants process.  I prepare legally binding documents and am involved in writing of the agency’s grants regulations.  I am a participant in many national and federal governmentwide organizations dealing with grants management.  I have recently been traveling the country as a speaker representing SSA – announcing new programs, educating groups about the agency’s vision for returning people to work and encouraging applicants to participate in new SSA programs. I have also been heavily involved in evaluating electronic grants management programs for the agency.

Enclosed you will find a copy of my resume.   I look forward to an opportunity to discuss this position with you.
