Experience I have over years experience of incident and emergency planning within the water industry, Local Authority and Health that has required working under pressure and to deadlines, where actions and decisions impact on customers.

Over my time I have been part of Incident Management Teams involved in many emergencies from the Swine Flu onset, localised flooding York to national flooding , Yorkshire, Ulley Dam, Gloucester, Foot and Mouth and the Fuel crisis.

Most recently, I was involved in an incident in Caddington, Bedfordshire where properties, many were vulnerable establishments or individuals, lost gas and power to their homes for over days in the lead up to Christmas .

Disaster & Incident Management – provision of support and expertise to internal and external professional partners during major incidents.

Business Continuity Management – training, promotion and maintenance of BCP plans and procedures.

Training and Exercising – working with professional partners and experts in the preparation and facilitation of internal and external exercises. For external exercises I have attended as the expert in water supply and disposal issues.

Project Management – preparing and organizing the delivery of capital and revenue projects. 

Work Experience

Emergency Planning Officer th October to
Central Bedfordshire Council th February

Here I completed a . month temporary contract while the position was filled. During my time I was involved in a number of projects with both the Bedfordshire and Luton Local Resilience Forum and Council. In April , the Council became Unitary and most of the plans were a combination of South and Mid Bedfordshire Council hurriedly put together. My duties involved reviewing these plans in existence and putting them into a sensible format for my successor to continue with. My main goal was preparing and delivering a flooding exercise which tested the Flood Response Team and Situation Room.

  • Death Pathways – review the use of storage facilities in line with expected death rates from pandemics
  • Fuel – work alongside Business Continuity and establish critical services with Council owned vehicles and essential users Transport and Highways, Waste Management
  • Flooding – overhaul of the public flood guide and preparation of Flood Response Team handbook
  • Temporary Mortuary – investigating suitable sites within the Councils boundary and region site for Go East
  • Strategic Holding Area – the use of potential sites for the onset of emergency service vehicles
  • Reservoir Inundation – the risk assessment and threat associated with dam failure
  • Emergency Planning Officer th May to
    Coventry NHS th September

    Key areas that I have contributed to are the design and development of the Coventry Flu Line and Anti Viral Collection Centre. During its creation, exercise scenarios were developed to pressure test the system and flow tests. A Coventry Flu line was initially developed which involved a lot of effort developing a call centre and scripts, working with the City Council and IT. Training was provided for over people and ensuring the Public Health Directorate had a basic understanding of Influenza A by use of the NHS elearning. I also reviewed the existing Heatwave plan and updated the plan in accordance with new planning assumptions and national guidance.
