Climate Resilient Cities CRC Program for Can Tho Vietnam, a , USD technical assistance initiative funded by ISDR and The World Bank whose objective is to build the municipal capacity to prepare for and proactively respond to climatic and other natural hazards increased frequency and severity of storms, droughts, sea level rise and other phenomena by reducing their vulnerabilities working at both the national level with relevant ministries and at the citylevel with municipalities, universities and NGOs. My task included participating in the Can Tho CT mission to support the city government to i establish a Steering Committee on Climate Change SCCC and a focal point for the WB CRC activity; ii conducting a Hot Spot Selfassessment exercise as the first step to establish a City Information Base CIB and a Local Resilience Action Plan LRAP. The purpose of CIB and LRAP is to help CT authorities to consolidate the information, plans, knowledge and experience that exist across the city&;s numerous entities, to raise the awareness of decisionmakers to the need for incorporating climate resilient urban planning and hazard mitigation into investment planning processes; to demonstrate a participatory tool for planning at various scales; and to develop through the LRAP a list of potential infrastructure projects that could be useful in attracting overseas development assistance ODA.
