Following reorganization of the previous GTE Lighting Geneva Headquarters, took over additional responsibilities in nonfinancial administration of the Headquarters and in projects to assist in restructuring of the marketing organizations and of the manufacturing operations which included direct involvement in an overall downsizing of the marketing organization and closure of a major plant in France.

Responsibilities were to ensure the development, implementation and control of compensation and benefits systems for the management population of all GTE groups in Europe. This included Hay system position evaluations, compensation structures, merit budgets, salary planning and analysis, fringe benefit plans and international transfers of managers. Also responsible for monitoring benefits, wage and salary plans for the nonmanagement personnel.

In addition, responsible for general human resources activities for the nonlighting companies including recruitment, termination, training and development, HR audits, HR planning and executive continuity. Provided technical assistance and served as a resource person to the field to interpret U.S. policies and provided U.S. management information on specific needs of manufacturing and sales and marketing subsidiaries in European countries.

GTE Valenite Europe was the European Headquarters of a GTE company with four manufacturing sites in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom and eleven sales and marketing offices in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom covering a total of over employees.

First located in Brussels reporting to the VicePresident International then transferred to Germany reporting to the newly appointed Managing Director Europe.

Responsible for directing the development, interpretation and application of human resources policies and procedures throughout European operations and for assisting the European Management Board with advice and followup on management, planning and organization matters. Acted as line Human Resources Manager in each country, having to adjust local intricacies to the corporate and group philosophies.

Also actively involved in compensation and benefits, collective bargaining, recruitment, termination, safety, health, environment, training and development, organization reviews, HR planning, executive continuity and in the overall implementation of appropriate HR policies.

Smoothed out a wide variety of HR problems in a corporate transition phase after the purchase by GTE and in an organizational transition phase following the creation of GTE Valenite Europe Headquarters.
