Ethnic Group: White
I have a genuine love of people and use a nonjudgmental and transparent approach. I possess various verbal and nonverbal communications skills and a wicked sense of humor; all of which I use to promote my clients inclusion, insight into their unique worth and that the therapy is "about them".
My advanced CBT Diploma supported by my other academic achievements has allowed me to gain extensive experience with clients with substance abuse issues from various walks of life, including highly successful executives under immense professional pressure, volatile and potentially dangerous young people, the elderly and I have counseled for death and dying; all in either group or individual therapeutic settings. Because of their individual uniqueness I am flexible in my design and approach with my client&;s recovery plans. Confidentially, respect and setting boundaries are always present within my practice.
I have more than years&; experience providing smoking cessation therapy for individuals, groups and communities. I have designed and delivered educational whole health related workshops and managed a whole health related newsletter.
I have lived and worked in various communities and locales, requiring cultural awareness and sensitivity, including Canada, England, the United States, Germany, Scotland and the Scottish Isles Gaelic communities and now Thailand.
Whilst living in Chiang Mai Thailand l volunteered at Wat Doi Tham, furthering my study of insight meditation in return for teaching English each day to the Thai Buddhist monks.
I believe that my skills and experience will add to the quality and prestige of your organization. I enjoy supporting people and helping them become all they can be in life.
Bank manager, experiencing panic attacks, alcohol used as a crutch. By utilizing CBT tools, e.g. assessment tool, measuring tool, role play, visualization, anger management, breathing skills, thought records, REBT ABC and the factor model, my client was allowed to recognize and identify triggers, problem solve, forward plan and identify and test out coping strategies within a safe therapeutic environment. I also supported my client towards the step program, delivering choice and support for the long term. My client was able to move forward successfully.
Successful business owner and hermaphrodite, abusing alcohol and experiencing depression. By delivering my nonjudgmental, transparent caring approach within my practice, my client was able to disclose on his second visit that he was a hermaphrodite. I used my experience and study with death and dying and CBT to promote my client&;s selfacceptance and assisted him to move beyond denial, anger, depression, etc. Various CBT tools that I utilized were assessment tools, breathing skills, measuring tools, homework, role playing, visualization, forward planning, altering vocabulary, managing thoughts and cravings, coping statements, drink refusal, interpersonal skills and testing out. My client learned to accept himself as a unique individual, as we all are, and moved forward successfully.
Successful group work includes working with Addaction as a cofacilitator in groups of individuals recovering from prescribed and nonprescribed substance issues. I utilized my knowledge of verbal and nonverbal language within these therapeutic relationships to engage clients and deliver trust and dignity. Within the groups I monitored and promoted clients inclusion. I also identified clients who monopolized discussions and effectively promoted in a nonaggressive manner movement within the group. My flexible approach supported the groups to function positively. Clients were able to identify and practice their new language skills which were more suitable, e.g., "No thank you I am not drinking today", etc. I recognized and promoted humor within the groups which added to the group&;s success. I enjoy group work and identify it&;s a safe positive environment for individuals to test out new language skills with their peers.
"There are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our encouragement, will need our unique talents. Someone will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give."
