OBJECTIVE

To find a challenging position specializing in development and evaluation of transdermal delivery systems for small and macromolecules. 

PROFILE

After completing B. Pharm. from North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon India in , I joined the Institute of Chemical Technology formerly UDCT, University of Mumbai, to pursue M. Pharm. Sci. The project for the Master’s thesis comprised the design and synthesis of new chemical entities NCE’s based on the fluconazole pharmacophore. NCEs belonging to the arylthiopropanone class were synthesized and evaluated for their antifungal activity. Followed by this, I worked in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries ltd., Mumbai as a research associate, where my responsibilities included development and validation of analytical methods using UV and HPLC as per FDA guidelines and preparing reports for ANDA applications. I developed HPLC methods for several molecules – CNS modulators and antidiabetics.

Later, I joined the Institute of Chemical Technology University of Mumbai in , to pursue a Ph.D. The aim of the doctoral research was to design and evaluate new drug delivery systems to improve transport of therapeutic agents across biomembranes. Formulations including microemulsions, SMEDDs, solid solutions, polymeric gels were prepared and evaluated for antifungals, antidiabetics and NSAIDs. It also involved the development and validation of stability indicating HPLC methods for raw drug and formulation analysis.

Thereafter, I started post doctoral research at the University of Geneva, Switzerland in . The research aimed at the noninvasive delivery of small and macromolecules across the skin using a novel laser microporation technique, iontophoresis and microneedles. Further, I have also gained extensive experience in formulation development and optimization, and stability evaluation of various peptides and proteins for transdermal application. I also acquired an experience in preparation and evaluation of micelle based nanoparticles using novel biodegradable polymers for topical delivery of azole antifungals. In addition, I also gained an expertise in developing and validation of analytical methods including HPLC/UPLC and ELISA for peptides and proteins. 

RESEARCH BACKGROUND 

NOVEL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS

          Small molecules: Lidocaine, diclofenac, immunosuppresants , dopamine agonists

  • Microemulsion based systems
  •       Topical gels for fluconazole, econazole nitrate, ketoconazole, clotrimazole

          Self microemulsifying systems for glyburide, etoposide, meloxicam

          Mucoadhesive vaginal gels for fluconazole and clotrimazole 

  • Micelle based nanoparticles for topical application

  • Solid solutions of hydrophobic actives using a novel carrier
  •       Tadalafil, valdecoxib, rofecoxib, celecoxib, carbamazepine

  • Taste masking of bitter drugs
  • Application of anionic, cationic ion exchange resins to formulate palatable formulations of clarithromycin, roxithromycin 

    ANALYTICAL DEVELOPMENT

  • UPLC/HPLC method development and validation:
  • Peptides triptorelin, exenatide, protein cytochrome c and small molecules including lidocaine, diclofenac, immunosuppresants , dopamine agonists , econazole nitrate, clotrimazole fluconazole, tadalafil, valdecoxib, rofecoxib, meloxicam, piroxicam, itraconazole, etoposide, griseofulvin, rosiglitazone, glimepiride, mirtazepine, phenytoin, metformin,  venlafaxine hydrochloride, carbohydrate analogue.

  • ELISA analysis:
  •       Follicle stimulating hormone, human growth hormone and immunosuppressant antibody

  • Quantification of FITClabeled bovine serum albumin and dextrans by fluorescence spectroscopy for skin transport experiment
