ADD I T I O N A L E D U C A T I O N Advanced Regents Diploma in Math and Science Stuyvesant High School, New York, New York Fall ­ Spring I focused mainly on math and science courses per Stuyvesant&;s reputation but was first introduced to and developed my love of the social sciences. As electives, I developed an original research project for the Intel Science Talent Search Social Sciences, and enrolled in the Prejudice and Persecution, and Race, Ethnicity, and Gender Studies courses. Which were the basis for other such courses in the U.S. WO R K E X P E R I E N C E Canvasser Working Families Party, New York, New York May ­ June The Working Families Party is an independent political party that provides support to individual political candidates whose policies support the average working lower and middle class person. I was assigned to the Charles Hall for Freeholder city council member campaign that was based out of Newark, New Jersey, a highly diverse metropolitan city. My duty was to provide political information on Charles Hall in addition to information about the election and polling places. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in winning the primary campaign and we were made redundant. I had previously worked with the Working Families Party during the Daniel Squadron campaign in . Working languages: English, some conversational Spanish Intern Law Clerk / Assistant to Executive Director Not Just Blacks and Jews in Conversation NJBJC New York, New York Fall Spring Before the Fall of , I had attended numerous lectures given by Shannon T., a current NYC court attorney, former judge, lifelong social activist and longtime Executive Director of NJBJC. NJBJC was founded by several prominent legal figures in the s in response to promoting dialogue between different racial and ethnic groups in the wake of the Crown Rights Riots. The organization seeks to develop understanding by promoting various viewpoints through films, speakers, et al. In the Fall of , I undertook the unique position of being his intern. In this role I performed a multitude of duties from secretarial work travel arrangements, correspondence, filing, press, observing court duties arraignments and trials to research, and developing an understanding of conflict resolution through the academic programs that I assisted Mr. T. with organizing and publicizing included many judges and court personnel from the New York City Justice system. PO L I T I C A L CA M P A I G N E X P E R I E N C E Since the Spring of , I have worked on political campaigns on the local, state and federal levels. Each lasted from one month to sixth months and provided me with + hours interacting with individuals from all works of life. While working on a campaign, I first learned as much as possible about the constituents and the candidate. Then, using that information, I effectively marketed the candidate and their platform modifying my approach to the individual constituent. I learned to be flexible, developed community relations / ties and sought out additional opportunities for the candidate, parting at the end of each campaign amicably. ORGANIZER EXPERIENCE During the Springs of and , I was a campus organizer for Power Shift / respectively. Power Shift is a large upwards of , attendees conference that attracts individuals who believe that the youth are the future and thus should have a significant say in political/ social enterprises. From Power Shift, I made valuable connections that enabled me to successfully plan and organize various primarily environmental events on small a few dozen and large scales +. VO L U N T E E R E X P E R I E N C E Mentor Martin Luther King Program, Meadville, Pennsylvania Fall I was assigned a youth ages who had been identified as having academic and personal problems to meet with one on one in order to develop "workarounds" for those problems. I had to undergo a rigorous selection process including FBI and state background checks, and an interview delving into my motivations, previous experiences and qualifications. Working languages: English but also provided basic tutoring in Spanish Tutor Greater Chinatown Community Association, New York, New York I tutored primarily recent immigrant students at the Seward Park Educational Campus in Regents subjects. In New York State, you must take exit exams in certain subjects to get a Regents diploma similar to the GCSE&;s. The subjects were Math A, Earth Science, Chemistry, Latin, Spanish and History World and American which I had already taken the exams for and scored in the upper percentiles for.
