  • Almost all science classes were accompanied with a lab component.
  • Participated in independent research for a Systems biology class. Here I combined my chemistry and biology background in studying iron concentrations in N. meningitidis biofilms and changes in iron related genes in different iron environments. This consisted of bioinformatics, Atomic Absorption Spectral analysis of iron, cellular methods in biofilm growth, coculture transwells experiments, plating of strains in agar plates, quantification of cells, gel electrophoresis, PCR as well as RealTime PCR and Microarrays in determining relative gene expressions.
  • Performed chemical identification, isolation and synthesis experiments as part of a pet molecule project in organic chemistry. Other chemistry labs exposed me to titrations, spectral analysis UVVIS, GCMS, proton and carbon NMR, FTIR chromatography HPLC and other methods.
