    DEVELOPMENT/SOURCING 

  • Garment Development:  Sourcing and cross costing of multiple product groups. Tailoring, Jeanswear, Knitwear, Jersey wear, Accessories, Shoes, Small Leather Goods. 
  • Fabric Development:  Sourcing and cross costing of fabrics from Japan, China and Europe.  Woven fabrics, Technical and Sport fabrics, Yarn, Jersey.

  • My main aim was to increase the production business from China.  With this in mind I put forward a plan to move to the Hong Kong office so that it could continue to build up a supplier base and a strong contribution for the design and development of the Paul Smith product.  I continued to keep close links with the UK designers and make sure there was a constant flow of new developments etc.
  • The production and developments going through the Hong Kong office were mainly Men’s, Women’s and Footwear.  We had a large number of shoes being made in China and Vietnam and I then employed a QC to cover this area.  This then improved production flow, costing structures and quality.
  • My team and myself reviewed all pricing.  I went through each style to see if any cuts or improvements could be made to make the items more cost effective so as to increase the overall profitability.
  • I visited all factories to monitor and audit them, to make sure they were suitable for our brand image.  I made sure that strong relationships were built.
  • Sourcing new suppliers in South China, Vietnam.
  • Put forward developments on fabrics, trims and products.

    Assistant Manager – PS & Londonline – Reporting to the Divisional Director and Production Manager. 

  • Comanaged the PS and Londonline office with the Production Managers for both lines, a total team of people,
  • Oversaw all production and development in China, with continuous growth on sales, quantities and profit for each new season. Closely monitored price structures and sales targets with the PS/London sales team to achieve the best sales possible. Progressed styles from development and sampling deliveries up to delivery into warehouse, making sure those critical paths are adhered to.  Ensured a first class supply structure that offered quality, price, flexibility and delivery lead times.
  • Held meetings with the Divisional Director, Designers and Sales Team to discuss the needs and strategies of the collection.

    Production, Sourcing and Developments – Reporting to the divisional Director and Production Manager. 

  • Negotiated initial prices and delivery dates with suppliers and continued to maximise profit through monitoring and maintaining the predefined price targets and cost structures. Worked closely with the Label Coordinator to create production plans for key suppliers.
  • Actively located and developed new suppliers worldwide for production and developments.
  • Put into work strong bonds with manufacturers in China and gradually developed a strong supplier base there. 
  • My first product group sourced in china was knitwear.  This started at a trial order of around pcs/per season.  This did extremely well and the figure went up to ’pcs/per season on one factory alone.
  • My next objective was outerwear.  Again this started of slow but built up to high volume after just one season.
  • Liaised with and visited factories at home and abroad Europe and Far East, to develop and maintain excellent relationships with suppliers.  Managed quality standards on production garments to the required strict quality standards. Managed, monitored and controlled ten suppliers under my charge.

    Production Manager – Reporting to David Reiss

    Reiss product range included: Tailoring, casual wear, sportswear, underwear, accessories, footwear, bags, mail order, and retail. 

  • I went to work for Reiss to set up a production department.  At that time they were very behind in this area and there was no effective system in place.  I set up a proper record system, sourced new suppliers and employed a reliable and committed team.   At first it was very difficult to make the necessary changes, but eventually it worked and I did enjoy my time working there.  My time with David Reiss was very rewarding and I learnt many things from his style of leadership.  My reason for leaving was mainly due to family issues and I was very sad to give up this post.
  • Line managed the Production, Designer, Sampling and Pattern Room staff, a total of people. Set up a production office, employed and trained new staff.  Designed and implemented an appraisal system for the department and also implemented new systems to improve the running of the production department.  Ordered fabrics for the seasons sampling & production, planned sample placements and deliveries.  Maintained delivery schedules and critical paths.  Developed the menswear range with the Designers and Product Manager. Organised and ran weekly meetings with the Managing Director, Designers and Production staff. Ensured sample requirements, factory allocation and budgets were agreed and adhered to.
