. Devised and implemented a smoking cessation course which I delivered to inmates at
HMP Glenochil. Success rates were higher than the national average.
I also rolled this course out as a private business venture and delivered the course on
site to employees of major companies and organisations.

Practice Nurse at maximum security HMP Glenochil in central Scotland. Generic nursing

COPD/Asthma, wellman, immunisation programmes, cardiac, epilepsy, smoking

Career synopsis
After student nurse training I secured a staff nurse position in a bed
coronary care/medical intensive care unit until when I opted for occupational
health/emergency nursing in the oil and gas exploration industry. I was employed for a
period of approximately years with two oil and gas companies both in the UK and the
Netherlands. During my employment in the offshore industry, and in order to retain and
update my clinical skills, I worked on a locum basis with a number of agencies providing
both nursing and other clinical specialisms.

Employed by The Scottish Prison Service since . Employed initially as a locum
nurse practitioner within Polmont young offenders institute and Cornton Vale women’s
prison before securing long term position at HMP Glenochil, a maximum security adult
male establishment.
Duties included emergency nurse triage, medication dispensing, proactive clinics, health
screening and advice, substance misuse issues etc. Nurses also responsible for
employee health and welfare and health & safety matters. Occupational health duties
included advising staff and line managers on healthrelated matters and performing
diagnostic measurements of lung function, exercise tolerance, audiometry and eye tests
and generic health screening.
During the trial of the suspects in the Lockerbie bombing, I was selected to represent the
SPS and secured the position of nurse practitioner at HMP Zeist in the Netherlands
where I was responsible for the medical welfare of the two accused Libyan nationals as
well as the entire Police force and prison staff on site.
During my career to date I have gained valuable experience in many aspects of the
nurse’s role from occupational health nursing to specialist nursing in secure units and
medical intensive care to specialist paediatric nursing.
